Abstract

This master’s thesis investigates how improvisation theatre can influence the co-creational aspects of service design and the value it may add. The study employs a co-creative case study with residents of a co-living hub in Copenhagen (FSB’s Artillerihuset), where a series of workshops integrated improvisation theatre–inspired exercises across the design process. The exercises were selected and adapted based on literature and expert interviews with senior service designers and improvisation theatre teachers, aiming to support participant engagement and session outcomes. Impact was assessed through participant feedback (surveys) and facilitator observations. Within this case, findings indicate that improvisation theatre can provide complementary value to service design, suggesting that practitioners may beneficially integrate improvisational elements into co-creation activities.
