Denne afhandling undersøger, hvordan EU’s immigrationspolitik har udviklet sig i de senere år. Med udgangspunkt i realistisk føderalisme og teori om ekstern governance analyseres sammenhængen mellem eksternalisering af migrationsforanstaltninger—altså når EU forsøger at håndtere migration uden for egne grænser—og opbygningen af en fælles europæisk politik. This thesis examines how the European Union’s immigration policy has evolved in recent years. Using realist federalism and external governance theory, it analyzes the link between the externalisation of migration measures—that is, efforts to manage migration beyond EU borders—and the development of a common EU policy. It also considers how EU norms and rules on irregular (illegal) immigration shape ongoing policy changes. Finally, it discusses how events in the Middle East, particularly the Arab Spring, relate to shifts in EU immigration policy.
