Abstract
This thesis examines the overlap between Erasmus study mobility and cultural tourism. Drawing on literature on youth travel and authenticity, it asks: To what extent is cultural tourism part of Erasmus students’ motivations, and how do they engage with the host destination’s culture during their stay? The study adopts a mixed-methods design combining an online survey with online interviews of Erasmus participants, and it is framed by a discussion of ontology and epistemology. The theoretical framework positions youth and student travel as a growing, economically significant segment and considers authenticity-seeking in a globalized context. The empirical work is organized around survey data and interview narratives. While this excerpt does not report findings, the project aims to assess whether Erasmus participation can be equated with youth cultural tourism and to offer insights for destinations and educational stakeholders on how to support and benefit from student mobility.
