Abstract
Denne afhandling undersøger, hvordan en almen lægepraksis i Nordjylland forestiller sig fremtiden med AI-chatbots som ChatGPT. Interessen udspringer af, at pandemien skubbede på brugen af sådanne værktøjer i sundhedsvæsenet, og af lanceringen af ChatGPT, som rejser nye spørgsmål og etiske overvejelser. Studiet ser på de sociale og kulturelle forhold, der præger, hvordan mennesker forstår og udvikler teknologien, og om den passer til behov, værdier og præferencer hos de involverede. Metodisk er det et eksplorativt casestudie, der kombinerer Social Construction of Technology (SCOT) – en tilgang, der undersøger, hvordan sociale grupper former teknologi – med etnografisk co-envisioning, hvor forsker og medarbejdere sammen reflekterer over og forestiller sig mulige fremtider. Undersøgelsen belyser, hvordan grupper i praksissen tolker AI-chatbots, hvilke håb og bekymringer de har, og hvad teknologien kan betyde for deres arbejde og for patienterne. Resultaterne skal bidrage til en forsvarlig, bæredygtig og kontekstnær implementering af AI-chatbots i sundhedsvæsenet og hjælpe beslutningstagere med at vurdere, om og hvordan de bør integreres. Afhandlingen giver et techno-antropologisk perspektiv og viser, hvorfor lokal viden og sociale dynamikker er vigtige for, hvordan sundhedsteknologi udvikles.
This thesis explores how a family doctor clinic in Northern Jutland imagines using AI chatbots like ChatGPT in the future. Interest grew as the pandemic accelerated such tools in healthcare and the release of ChatGPT raised new questions and ethical issues. The study examines the social and cultural factors that shape how people understand and build the technology, and whether it fits the needs, values, and preferences of those involved. Methodologically, it is an exploratory case study that combines Social Construction of Technology (SCOT) — an approach that studies how social groups shape technology — with ethnographic co-envisioning, in which researchers and staff reflect together and imagine possible futures. The study highlights how groups in the clinic interpret AI chatbots, what they hope for and worry about, and what the technology might mean for their work and for patients. The findings aim to support careful, sustainable, and context-aware implementation of AI chatbots in healthcare and help decision-makers assess if and how they should be integrated. The thesis offers a techno-anthropological perspective, underscoring why local knowledge and social dynamics matter for how healthcare technology develops.
