Abstract

This thesis examines how well polarized filters—optical films that let light of a single orientation pass—can reduce indoor glare without compromising how pleasant and useful the light feels, compared with common window treatments. Using lab experiments and manual Unified Glare Rating (UGR) calculations—a standard way to estimate discomfort from bright light—the study finds that polarized filters do reduce glare, but conventional solutions often perform better overall.
