Abstract
This project analyzes and designs how to generate electricity for sustainable off-grid houses being developed within Project Grobund. It begins with an overview of off-grid electricity systems and practical options for local power production. It then estimates the energy needs of a conceptual off-grid house. To explore heat-to-electricity options, the project tests thermoelectric elements—devices that convert temperature differences directly into electricity—mounted on a masonry mass oven, both in the laboratory and in the field. An Excel-based Off-grid Simulation Tool is developed to model the balance between electricity demand, generation from photovoltaic panels and a wind turbine, and battery storage. Based on these insights, an energy system is proposed for the off-grid houses in Project Grobund. Finally, the report reviews Danish legislation that may affect off-grid living, with a detailed discussion of conditions at the intended location.
