Abstract
This thesis examines how the former Skansevejens Skole in Nørresundby can be carefully transformed into a Residential Care Home and Social & Activity Center for people with cognitive and/or physical disabilities. The project pursues deinstitutionalization—making an institutional setting feel more like a home—to strengthen users’ autonomy and social inclusion while revitalizing the surrounding area. The transformation is preservation-oriented and sustainable: it respects the building’s social, historical, and architectural value and aims to lower environmental impact. The approach combines mapping user needs with life cycle assessment (LCA), which evaluates environmental impacts across the building’s lifespan, and daylight simulations, which study how natural light can improve indoor environment and well-being. The goal is an inclusive, sustainable design that balances care, independence, and conservation.
Denne afhandling undersøger, hvordan den tidligere Skansevejens Skole i Nørresundby kan omdannes skånsomt til et botilbud og et social- og aktivitetscenter for mennesker med kognitive og/eller fysiske funktionsnedsættelser. Projektet arbejder med af-institutionalisering – at få institutionen til at føles mere som et hjem – for at styrke brugernes selvbestemmelse og sociale inklusion og samtidig give nyt liv til området omkring bygningen. Transformationen er bevaringsorienteret og bæredygtig: den respekterer bygningens sociale, historiske og arkitektoniske værdi og søger at reducere miljøpåvirkningen. Metodisk kombineres kortlægning af brugerbehov med livscyklusvurdering (LCA), der vurderer miljøpåvirkninger gennem hele bygningens levetid, og dagslyssimuleringer, der undersøger, hvordan naturligt lys kan forbedre indeklima og trivsel. Målet er et inkluderende, bæredygtigt design, der forener omsorg, selvstændighed og bevaring.
