Digital Support for Women During ADHD Medication Initiation for Clinical Dialogue

This thesis investigates how a digital solution can support women with ADHD during the initiation of medication while strengthening clinical dialogue with their psychiatrists. Building on a previous exploratory study and an identified research gap between ADHD technologies, menstrual cycle awareness and medication support tools, the project follows an iterative, user-centered design process. The method includes literature reviews, patient journey mapping, a survey, collaboration with the private psychiatric clinic Empano, idea generation, prototyping and evaluation involving women diagnosed with ADHD and clinical experts. The studies show that participants often struggle to remember and communicate symptoms between consultations, to assess the long-term effects of medication, and to understand connections between symptoms and hormonal fluctuations, creating a need for a tool that can collect and visualize these data. In response, the authors develop Prototype E, a digital concept that integrates symptom, medication and menstrual cycle tracking and presents data through visualizations and personalized insights, aiming to act as cognitive support and an external memory aid. Evaluations indicate that participants experience improved overview, easier pattern recognition and better preparation for clinical conversations, and they highlight flexibility, personalization, and the integration of multiple tracking types as key strengths.
