Abstract

I denne undersøgelse byggede og testede vi et Bluetooth-baseret multiroom-lydsystem, altså et system der sender den samme musik til højttalere i flere rum. Vi vurderede det i to Bluetooth-netværksopstillinger: piconet (én enhed, der koordinerer en lille gruppe) og scatternet (flere sådanne grupper forbundet med hinanden). For at afprøve kompatibilitet i praksis streamede vi lyd fra Android-enheder med versioner 4.0.3–8.0 og Bluetooth-versioner 2.1–4.2. Resultaterne viser, at Bluetooth kan bruges til denne type system, men med kompromiser. Det kan ikke pålideligt levere lyd i CD-kvalitet; for at opnå stabil streaming måtte vi sænke lydkvaliteten ved at reducere samplerate og bitdybde og ved at justere mellem stereo og mono. Med disse justeringer lykkedes det at streame lyd til flere enheder i forskellige scatternet-konfigurationer.

In this study, we built and tested a Bluetooth-based multi-room audio system—the kind that sends the same music to speakers in different rooms. We evaluated it in two Bluetooth network setups: piconets (one device coordinating a small group) and scatternets (several such groups linked together). To test real-world compatibility, we streamed audio from Android devices running versions 4.0.3–8.0 and using Bluetooth versions 2.1–4.2. The results show that Bluetooth can support this type of system, but with trade-offs. It cannot reliably deliver CD-quality audio; to achieve stable streaming we had to reduce audio quality by lowering the sample rate and bit depth and by adjusting between stereo and mono. With these adjustments, we were able to stream audio to multiple devices across different scatternet configurations.
