Abstract

This Master's Thesis uses a user-centered approach to designing smoking cessation technology; by conducting multiple focus groups and design workshops, the research team was able to gain knowledge on how technology can help within this context. Overall, 12 issues were found, that should be considered when designing and developing technology in order to support people who are struggling with a smoking addiction. These issues were presented in the design workshops, in order for the participants to devise useful ideas on how technology could aid and support them. In combining the findings from both the focus groups and design workshops, the research team was able to create a low-fidelity prototype, using smartphone technology to support users in this context.
