Abstract
This thesis examines the design of a responsible AI user interface for obstetric ultrasound focused on fetal weight estimation (EFW), developed in collaboration with a Danish research group at the Pioneer Center for AI. Using a techno-anthropological approach and methods from Value Sensitive Design (VSD), it employs social-scientific techniques including qualitative interviews, focus groups, user testing of prototypes, and work with UI mockups to identify stakeholder values and translate them into concrete design requirements. The analysis highlights issues in the current prototype’s mediation of values related to clinical certainty and moral accountability, and recommends shifting from a minimalist UI toward a robust, explicable interface that better supports clinicians’ decision-making. The thesis presents UI mockups, design norms, and requirements aligned with clinical workflows and European societal ethics to foster responsible innovation and more effective use of AI in healthcare.
