Design og udvikling af MinType2 - en multifunktionel self-management app

Abstract

Baggrund: Antallet af personer med type 2 diabetes (T2DM) er stigende, og hos denne patientgruppe er self-management vigtigt for at sikre god regulering af sygdommen. Adskillige værktøjer kan understøtte self-management, herunder eksempelvis apps. Der lader imidlertid til at være en tendens til manglende brug af disse, hvilket blandt andet kan tilskrives begrænset funktionalitet eller manglende brugerinddragelse i udviklingen. Formålet med dette speciale er derfor at designe og udvikle en prototype af en app til personer med T2DM på baggrund af brugernes holdninger og undervejs vurdere brugervenligheden. Metode: Discount usability engineering blev anvendt til at designe og udvikle prototypen, MinType2. Igennem en systematisk litteratursøgning blev de funktioner, brugerne finder essentielle at inkludere i en app, identificeret. Ud fra disse blev MinType2 udviklet i PowerPoint igennem en iterativ proces. Første iteration bestod af fire heuristiske evalueringer (HE), mens anden og tredje iteration bestod af hver tre simple tænke-højt tests (STH-tests). Resultater: 15 funktioner blev identificeret, og ud fra disse blev fire udvalgt til at blive udbygget i MinType2. Ved HE blev der noteret 113 overtrædelser af heuristikkerne, hvilket ledte til 28 ændringer og en ny version af MinType2. De to iterationer af STH-tests førte til henholdsvis fire og to ændringer, hvilke resulterede i den sidste version af MinType2. Konklusion: MinType2 blev udviklet i PowerPoint med udgangspunkt i de 15 identificerede funktioner og undervejs afprøvet igennem en iterativ proces. Det kan ikke entydigt konkluderes, hvorvidt brugervenligheden af MinType2 er god eller dårlig, men testpersonerne gav udtryk for, at den var nem at navigere i og simpel at anvende.

Introduction: The number of people with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is increasing and in this patient group self-management is important to ensure proper regulation of the disease. Several tools can support self-management, including apps. However, there seems to be a tendency to non-use which, among other things, can be attributed to limited functionality or lack of user involvement in the development. Thus, the purpose of this thesis is to design and develop a prototype of an app for people with T2DM based on users' attitudes to the content and along the way assess usability. Methods: Discount usability engineering was used to design and develop the prototype, MinType2. A systematic literature search was conducted to identify which features users find essential to include in an app. Based on these MinType2 was developed in PowerPoint through an iterative process. The first iteration consisted of four heuristic evaluations (HE) and the second and third iterations consisted of each three simple thinking-aloud tests (STH-tests). Results: 15 features were identified and of these four were selected to be developed in MinType2. 113 violations of the heuristics were noted in HE which led to 28 changes and a new version of MinType2. The two iterations of STH-tests led to four and two modifications, respectively which resulted in the last version of MinType2. Conclusion: MinType2 was developed in PowerPoint based on the 15 identified functions and along the way tested through an iterative process. It is not clear whether the usability of MinType2 is good or poor, but the test subjects indicated that it was easy to navigate and simple to use.
