Specialet undersøger Danmarks drukkultur gennem analyser af Thomas Vinterbergs spillefilm Druk og dokumentarserien Børn på druk for at belyse både de positive og negative sider ved alkohol og deres kulturelle betydning. Udgangspunktet er genreforskning og medieteori med inspiration fra Gunhild Agger og Rick Altman, samt en sondring mellem fakta- og fiktionskontrakter for at forstå, hvordan form og konventioner påvirker seerens opfattelse af alkohol. Druk følger fire gymnasielærere, der eksperimenterer med en konstant promille, og viser både øget selvtillid og kreativitet samt afhængighed og ødelagte relationer. Børn på druk giver et realistisk indblik i unges alkoholforbrug gennem interviews og observationer, fremhæver sociale normer og pres, og peger på helbredsmæssige og fremtidsmæssige konsekvenser samt kommerciel udnyttelse. Specialet konkluderer, at de to værker tilsammen nuancerer forståelsen af den komplekse danske drukkultur og understreger behovet for en afbalanceret offentlig debat, alkoholpolitik og undervisning, der tager højde for både sociale gevinster og sundhedsrisici.

This thesis examines Denmark’s drinking culture by analyzing Thomas Vinterberg’s feature film Another Round (Druk) and the documentary series Børn på druk to illuminate both the positive and negative facets of alcohol and their cultural significance. The study draws on genre research and media theory inspired by Gunhild Agger and Rick Altman, and distinguishes between factual and fictional contracts to understand how form and conventions shape viewers’ perceptions of alcohol. Another Round follows four high school teachers who experiment with maintaining a constant blood alcohol level, depicting gains in confidence and creativity alongside addiction and damaged relationships. Børn på druk offers a realistic view of youth drinking through interviews and observations, highlighting social norms and pressures, health and future consequences, and the commercial exploitation of youth culture. The thesis concludes that together these works deepen understanding of Denmark’s complex drinking culture and underscore the need for a nuanced public debate and a balanced approach to alcohol policy and education that recognizes both social benefits and health risks.
