Abstract

This thesis examines the Danish wind power energy innovation system, focusing on industrial dynamics, learning processes, and policy. It builds a combined analytical framework that integrates innovation systems perspectives (national, regional, and sectoral), technological systems, and industry analysis to explain how actors, institutions, knowledge, and markets have shaped the sector. Methodologically, it applies a historical-comparative design that distinguishes three periods: from early pioneers around 1890 up to 2001, the 2001–2007 phase, and developments from 2007 onward. For each period, the study considers institutions, organizations, technologies, inputs and demand, and market structure (including supplier and buyer power, substitutes, and entry/exit barriers). It also explores the competition–innovation nexus and policy implications. The list of figures suggests a mix of historical cases (e.g., turbines by Poul la Cour, the Gedser and Tvind turbines) and quantitative indicators such as capacity, energy mix, exports, and market shares. Specific data sources and methods are outlined in the methodology chapter, but empirical findings and conclusions are not included in this excerpt.
