Abstract

This report explores the design of a service that offers high school students cultural information that both educates and entertains. The concept is built on a relational database (a structured database that organizes information in linked tables) that aggregates data about students through 'aesthetic markers'—indicators of taste and style—to personalize content. A core requirement is privacy: the service is designed to collect and use data without leaving traces that can be linked back to individual students. To ground the design, the study examines the system at Copenhagen’s main library, including its IT infrastructure and physical interfaces. It also includes research on students’ needs and online behavior. Because the final design was not tested, the conclusions are indicative rather than definitive.
