Abstract
This Creative Genius Semester project at Aalborg University explores how to strengthen web developers’ professional creativity in the workplace. Guided by a “burning question,” it proposes the Creative Coding Arena—a game-like, open-source-inspired environment where two developers compete to solve automatically generated coding tasks quickly and creatively, earning points for productivity and speed. The approach applies the program’s creative methods, including ideation, use of horizontal and vertical knowledge, engaging gatekeepers/experts, identifying blind spots, and producing low-fidelity paper sketches. Early qualitative feedback from a web developer indicates interest and sees the concept as engaging, while cautioning that a public, competitive setup may have negative effects for some; an anonymous online implementation is suggested as mitigation.
