Abstract
Climate change poses serious risks, and many organizations are acting to reduce them. SGRE is working to shrink its climate and environmental impact by running a digital innovation event with its employees. This thesis designs an event system for SGRE to help generate ideas that can reduce or mitigate environmental impacts. The system is based on interviews with SGRE employees and on literature about innovation, digitalization, and event management. The system, called the Sustainable Innovation Event structure, has two parts: an overall event framework that sets scope and goals, and a set of workshops where ideas are created to address environmental issues. It defines four levels of structure matched to different kinds of problems: (1) strict structure for local, well-defined issues; (2) moderate structure for local issues with some uncertainty; (3) mild structure for global issues examined in a local context; and (4) lenient structure for global 'wicked' problems—highly complex challenges without a single right solution. Each level comes with a predefined workshop design that supports creative idea generation while keeping discussions focused on mitigation. Because the system has not yet been test-run and there are uncertainties around implementation, it may need adjustment. The conclusion is that, once implemented and refined, the system can help SGRE reach its environmental goals.
