Abstract

This study explores Nordea Bank’s approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its limited engagement with the public sector. It asks why the public sector is not included in Nordea’s CSR agenda and how the bank could build a better relationship with public authorities while achieving positive outcomes. The research draws on interviews with the bank’s CSR Compliance Manager, a review of CSR literature, and the company’s information archives. The analysis applies CSR concepts and stakeholder theory—the idea that organizations should consider groups that affect them or are affected by them—focusing on how to identify key stakeholders and assess their salience (how important and influential they are). Based on this analysis, the study offers recommendations to help Nordea strengthen its relationship with the public sector through CSR.
