Abstract

I COMET (Cooperative Mobile Positioning) undersøger vi, hvordan man kan forbedre lokalisering i 4G-net. Målet er en supplerende løsning, der komplementerer GPS og GPS-frie metoder og giver pålidelig positionsbestemmelse for alle, altid og overalt. Hovedideen er samarbejde: Nærliggende mobilenheder deler mere pålidelige målinger af modtaget signalstyrke (RSS), som kan forbedre positionsskøn, når almindelige jordbaserede teknikker fungerer dårligt. Vi har opbygget et hybridt setup, der kombinerer Mobile WiMAX og WLAN (Wi-Fi), og vi samler alle målinger med et Extended Kalman Filter (udvidet Kalman-filter), en metode til at kombinere støjfyldte data over tid for at beregne position. Forsøg med både stationære og bevægende enheder viser, at samarbejde kan øge nøjagtigheden med over 26 %.

In the COMET (Cooperative Mobile Positioning) project, we explore how to improve location services in 4G networks. Our goal is a supplementary system that complements GPS and GPS-free methods to provide reliable positioning for anyone, anytime, anywhere. The core idea is cooperation: nearby mobile devices share more reliable received signal strength (RSS) measurements, which can improve position estimates when conventional terrestrial techniques perform poorly. We built a hybrid setup that combines Mobile WiMAX and WLAN (Wi-Fi), and we fuse all measurements using an Extended Kalman Filter, a method for combining noisy data over time to estimate position. Tests with both stationary and moving devices show that cooperation improves location accuracy, delivering more than a 26% gain.
