Abstract

Dette speciale præsenterer et arkitektonisk forslag til et fællesskabscenter i Kuakata, et kystområde i Bangladesh. Ud over æstetik og form anlægges en helhedsorienteret tilgang til bæredygtighed, der forbinder lokal kulturel identitet med udfordringerne i et udviklingsland. Fordi området er udsat for naturkatastrofer og følgerne af klimaforandringer, tager designet fat på miljømæssige risici både i konstruktion og funktion—altså i, hvordan bygningerne opføres, og hvordan rummene bruges. Forslaget er udarbejdet for den lokale nonprofitorganisation Community Development Center (CODEC), som i 35 år har arbejdet for kystsamfund i Bangladesh. Målet er at skabe et praktisk og imødekommende sted, hvor folk kan mødes og deltage i forskellige aktiviteter, samtidig med at centret tilbyder tilpasningsdygtige løsninger til de stadig hyppigere klimarelaterede naturbegivenheder.

This thesis presents an architectural proposal for a community center complex in Kuakata, a coastal area of Bangladesh. Beyond appearance and aesthetics, the project takes a holistic approach to sustainability that links local cultural identity with the challenges of a developing country. Because the area is prone to natural disasters and the effects of climate change, the design addresses environmental risk through both construction and use—through how the buildings are made and how the spaces function. The proposal is developed for the local non-profit Community Development Center (CODEC), which has supported coastal communities in Bangladesh for the past 35 years. The aim is to create a practical, welcoming place where people can meet and take part in various activities, while offering adaptable solutions to the rising number of climate-related natural hazards.
