Abstract
This thesis examines community-based tourism (CBT) in the village of Ghandruk in Nepal’s Annapurna region, focusing on how local stakeholders understand and experience CBT and what social and economic changes they associate with it. Grounded in literature on CBT and collaboration, the study adopts a qualitative case study design and collects primary data through interviews with tourism actors, community representatives, and other residents. It aims to document stakeholder perspectives and assess how CBT is perceived to influence livelihoods, local development, and social relations, including poverty reduction and caste discrimination, as well as the interplay between community initiatives and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project since the 1980s. The guiding research question is: What are the perspectives of local stakeholders toward CBT, and how has CBT impacted Ghandruk socially and economically? The section provided outlines context and methodology; specific empirical findings are presented in later chapters.
