Abstract
Virtual Reality (VR) is increasingly used to design and review physical spaces. At Novo Nordisk, VR workshops currently place a few participants in VR while others only observe on a screen, creating asymmetry and unequal perceived participation. This thesis examines whether combining head‑mounted VR with tablet interfaces in a shared system can support more balanced collaboration in design workshops. We built a networked, cross‑platform prototype and evaluated it in a within‑group study with six groups of four participants. Each group completed two tasks while switching between VR and tablet roles, filled out a collaboration questionnaire after each task, had their in‑app interactions logged, and took part in a focus group interview after the second task. Results indicate that participants were able to collaborate across devices and that their self‑reported sense of participation was generally equal across roles, with the exception that tablet users reported greater awareness of others in the virtual environment. Further research is needed to determine whether this approach is preferred over Novo Nordisk’s current VR workshop practice.
