Abstract
This thesis describes the development of a local, web-based system for people in the third age (older adults) to help strengthen their social networks. We worked through co-creation with seniors—that is, close collaboration with users—to ensure the solution fits their needs and abilities. Co-creation was also used to bridge the gap between older adults and technology and to reduce barriers to using digital tools. Methodologically, we followed a reverse-engineering-inspired approach: we first identified the core mechanisms of social networking (how people connect and stay in touch), and then gradually built a solution based on those insights.
