Abstract
This thesis investigates how climate change shapes conflict dynamics in the Lake Chad Basin, with particular attention to the role of youth in Far-North Cameroon. It examines climate change as a threat multiplier that intensifies a vicious cycle of conflict, scarce natural resources, and limited youth agency. Using a mixed-methods design, the study combines quantitative environmental data from reports and scientific literature with three semi-structured interviews with experts who have worked in and lived in the region. The time frame spans climatic developments from the second half of the twentieth century to the present, and the analysis connects drought, rising temperatures, and resource stress to existing instability, including violence linked to Boko Haram. Challenging approaches that treat climate change, conflict, and youth separately, the thesis argues that their interconnections are essential to understanding why millions in the region require humanitarian assistance and why the crisis risks deepening. The excerpted chapters outline the methodological choices and context, while the main finding emphasizes the need for a holistic perspective.
