Abstract

This thesis examines how French and British colonial rule has shaped Cameroon’s higher education system, seen from the perspective of students. It considers the historical roots of today’s francophone and anglophone traditions and how language, rules, and teaching practices affect access, learning, and opportunities. By centering student experiences and viewpoints, the work highlights which elements of colonial legacies continue to influence universities and other institutions, and how they are perceived in everyday life. The aim is to offer a nuanced picture of how the past shapes the current educational landscape and students’ paths through the system.
