Abstract

Bwhere bygger videre på vores tidligere projekt “Awhere – Handling of Data Streams in a Mobile Context” ved at tilføje abonnement på geografiske områder. Det skaber et samspil mellem tre teknologiverdener: mobile enheder, datastrømme og geografiske informationssystemer (GIS). Vi leverer både en konceptuel løsning og en praktisk prototype. Konceptuelt definerer vi sammensatte rum‑tids forespørgselsoperatorer til brug i mobile og streamende miljøer, som kan fange hændelser som, når objekter går ind i eller forlader et område. Praktisk bygger vi en prototype, der kombinerer Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) til mobile enheder, TelegraphCQ til streambehandling og PostgreSQL til datalagring. En implementering af operatorerne “enter” og “leave” binder systemerne sammen. Både teori og forsøg viser, at det er muligt at kombinere mobilitet, datastrømme og GIS, selvom nogle af de involverede teknologier stadig kræver mere modenhed.

Bwhere builds on our previous project, “Awhere – Handling of Data Streams in a Mobile Context,” by adding area subscription (registering interest in geographic areas to receive updates). It connects three technology domains: mobile devices, data streams, and geographic information systems (GIS). We provide both a conceptual approach and a working prototype. Conceptually, we define composite spatiotemporal query operators for streaming data in mobile environments that capture events such as objects entering or leaving areas. Practically, we implement a prototype combining Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) for mobile, TelegraphCQ for stream processing, and PostgreSQL for data storage. Implementing the “enter” and “leave” operators ties these systems together. Both the theory and experiments indicate that integrating mobility, streaming, and GIS is feasible, although some of the technologies involved still need further maturity.
