Abstract

This thesis was conducted in collaboration with Disruptive Option, a social enterprise in Mexico City that advances social innovation through educational products. It investigates how to innovate Disruptive Option’s business model to enhance social impact and economic sustainability and enable growth. Using a case study design and a review of business model innovation and social entrepreneurship literature, the thesis selects and applies a four-step framework: (1) analyzing the current business model and organizational setup to identify strengths, (2) designing a new business model by applying relevant theories and subjecting it to risk management, (3) developing an action plan with milestones to guide execution, including new motivational practices, HR restructuring, building collaborations and lobbying, and introducing a subscription model, and (4) planning implementation by the company. Due to time constraints, the thesis focuses on the first three steps and provides the basis for implementation. The contribution is a theory-informed business model design and practical action plan tailored to a social enterprise context, aligning social value creation with financial viability; no implementation results are reported.
