Abstract

Byer over hele verden oplever voksende trafiktrængsel, miljøforurening og social udelukkelse, især i udviklingslande.

Cities around the world face growing traffic congestion, environmental pollution, and social exclusion, especially in developing countries. When urban mobility is unsustainable, it threatens future development and quality of life. Bogotá, Colombia, offers a striking case: the city sought to transform transport by building TransMilenio, a high-quality Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system—a high-capacity bus network with dedicated lanes. The project was central to Enrique Peñalosa’s political agenda around the turn of the millennium. This thesis examines how the world’s largest BRT system was planned and implemented, the barriers that innovative, sustainable mobility projects face, and the key issues planners should consider when attempting similar initiatives in other cities.
