Abstract

Token-baserede platforme er en ny måde at anvende blockchain—en delt digital logbog—på tværs af sektorer. Dette speciale undersøger, hvad de kan i musikbranchen ved at studere token-baserede musikplatforme. Vejledt af etablerede teorier og begreber og med både litteraturgennemgang og empiriske data leverer studiet tre hovedresultater. For det første identificerer det centrale udfordringer i branchen, især hvordan royaltybetalinger og ophavsret spores og forvaltes. For det andet udvikler det gennem konceptuel rammeanalyse et integrativt STT-rammeværk, der beskriver, hvordan token-baserede platforme fungerer, og hvordan de skaber, leverer og indfanger værdi (altså hvordan de virker og kan hænge sammen). STT-rammen består af 12 byggeklodser fordelt på tre områder: Service (hvad platformen tilbyder), Tokenmekanik (hvordan tokens er designet og bruges) og Teknisk (den underliggende teknologi). Rammen samler spredt viden om token-baserede platforme i et samlet overblik og bidrager til både forskning og praksis. For det tredje anvendes STT-rammen i flere casestudier af to førende startups, Musicoin og IndieOn, for at vise, hvordan den kan bruges til at analysere konkrete platforme. Da blockchain, kryptoøkonomi og token-baserede platforme stadig er i en tidlig fase, er STT-rammen tænkt som et fundament for videre forskning.

Token-based platforms are a new way to apply blockchain—a shared digital ledger—across many sectors. This thesis examines what they can do in the music industry by studying token-based music platforms. Guided by established theories and concepts, and using both a review of prior research and empirical data, the study delivers three main results. First, it identifies major challenges in the industry, especially how royalties and copyrights are tracked and managed. Second, through conceptual framework analysis, it develops an integrative model—the STT framework—that explains how token-based platforms operate and how they create, deliver, and capture value (in other words, how they work and sustain themselves). The STT framework has 12 building blocks grouped into three areas: Service (what the platform offers), Token Mechanics (how tokens are designed and used), and Technical (the underlying technology). It brings together scattered knowledge about token-based platforms into one coherent framework, contributing to both academic and practical understanding. Third, the STT framework is applied in multiple case studies of two leading start-ups, Musicoin and IndieOn, to show how it can be used to analyze real platforms. Because blockchain, crypto-economics, and token-based platforms are still at an early stage, the STT framework is intended as a foundation for future research.
