Abstract
This thesis examines how client requirements can be more effectively collected, managed, and communicated during the design phase of building projects. Using qualitative methods, it combines a literature review, interviews (including with a client representative), and a single case study of a new AAU building to explore challenges in information sharing and collaboration within complex projects. The research question is: How can a link between client requirements and project participants be achieved during the design phase? Two key approaches are analyzed: Building Information Management (BIM) as both a process and set of tools for structuring and sharing information, and Building Commissioning (Cx) as a quality assurance process aimed at ensuring the final product meets client needs. Based on this analysis, the thesis proposes a combined BIM and Cx approach to serve as a link between requirements and participants, and provides recommendations with high-level implementation steps. The work is scoped to the design phase, relies on one case study, and does not address legal aspects, timelines, or budgeting, but highlights opportunities for improvement and further study.
