Abstract

This project is part of my Master’s thesis in Industrial Design at Aalborg University. Its purpose is to document the design process that led to the final solution. The work focuses on a cycling solution for children with mild to moderate cerebral palsy (CP), a condition that affects movement and muscle control. Research indicated that the best option was not to design an entirely new bike, but a set of accessories that can be fitted to regular bikes. During development, sketching, model making, and user testing were used to arrive at a final concept for a bike saddle and handlebar. Both are ergonomically designed to better meet the needs of children with CP for comfort and control. The concept adds value by offering a more affordable and accessible way to adapt a bicycle, because the accessories fit standard bikes.
