Abstract

This report aims to resolve the problem of value based prioritization of the Product Backlog for the Product Owner in Scrum, by changing it from cost to value. We take a Design Science research approach, by building and evaluating an artifact, to address our research question. We created an extension to the project management tool, named Jira, which incorporates the theory of Benefit Points. Benefit Points is a simple way of using value in the prioritization of the Product Backlog. Our solution has been evaluated with three practitioners, and we found that our solution is interesting for the resolution of our research question. In conclusion, our results shows that using Benefit Points for prioritization is beneficial and the integration into the widely used Jira, is fruitful to practitioners.
