Abstract

Hotel- og oplevelsesbranchen er i forandring, og hoteller må innovere for at tiltrække rejsende. Dette speciale undersøger boutiquehoteller - ofte forstået som små, designfokuserede hoteller med personlig service - med særligt fokus på Spanien. Der findes få akademiske kilder om det spanske boutiquehotelsegment, og definitionerne varierer, hvilket skaber forvirring blandt både forskere og rejsende (nogle forbinder 'boutique' med en lille butik). Studiet søger at afklare, hvad der kendetegner segmentet ud fra turisters perspektiver, med fokus på produkt- og servicekvalitet, medarbejdernes tilgang, hotellets design og den samlede gæsteoplevelse. Undersøgelsen kombinerer sekundære og primære data. Først gennemgås eksisterende litteratur og onlinemateriale, og der gennemføres en indholdsanalyse af TripAdvisor-anmeldelser af spanske boutiquehoteller for at identificere temaer. Disse indsigter, sammen med et teoretisk rammeværk om kundeoplevelse, fysiske omgivelser og servicekvalitet, bruges til at udforme semistrukturerede interviews. The hospitality sector is changing, and hotels must innovate to attract travelers. This thesis explores the concept of boutique hotels - often understood as small, design-focused places with personalized service - with a special focus on Spain. Academic sources on Spain's boutique hotel segment are scarce, and definitions vary, creating confusion among both scholars and travelers (some associate 'boutique' with a small shop). The study seeks to clarify what characterizes this segment from tourists' perspectives, considering product and service quality, staff approach, hotel design, and the overall guest experience. The research combines secondary and primary data. First, existing literature and online materials are reviewed, and a content analysis of TripAdvisor reviews about Spanish boutique hotels is conducted to identify themes. These insights, together with a theoretical framework on customer experience, physical environment, and service quality, inform the design of semi-structured interviews. In total, eight interviews were conducted (two via Skype and six in person) with potential guests and travelers who have stayed in boutique hotels in Spain. The thesis aims to offer clearer insights and new angles on the boutique hotel concept in Spain and to highlight patterns in how this unique segment is perceived.
