Abstract

In renovation projects, designing for a good indoor environment (IE)—the conditions inside buildings—is a central task. To run IE simulations and calculations, specific data are needed, especially geometric data about rooms and building elements. Today, these data are typically gathered with handheld laser distance meters or tape measures and documented manually on paper or digitally. Automatic data transfer between measuring tools and data processing software is not common practice among IE consultants in the Danish building industry. To streamline this process, this report proposes a methodology to help select an appropriate handheld laser, suitable data processing software, and how to use them, so that data collection can be automated. The research question addressed is: How can data for IE analysis and simulation be collected through Automated Data Acquisition (ADA)?
