Abstract

This thesis assesses how Mallorca’s energy system can transition to meet the Balearic Climate Change and Energy Transition Law targets of 100% renewable energy and full emissions reduction by 2050. It starts from the island’s vulnerability to climate change, a very low share of renewables, and high tourism-driven demand, alongside significant emissions from coal power and road traffic. The research question asks how the energy system can be modeled to comply with the law’s objectives and how the law itself supports the transition.
