Abstract

This study examines how Denmark aligns its national climate policies with the European Green Deal (EGD), the EU’s plan for climate neutrality and green transition. Using content analysis of policy documents and drawing on Europeanisation theory—which examines how EU rules influence national policies—the thesis assesses Denmark’s role as a frontrunner in renewable energy, its alignment with EU climate initiatives, the challenges of policy harmonisation, and the impact of the EGD. The findings show that Denmark combines proactive national initiatives with adjustments to meet EU requirements, reinforcing its image as a leader in sustainable development within the EU. At the same time, the Danish approach highlights the need to balance EU directives with domestic priorities in order to foster cooperation and address climate challenges. The study enhances understanding of Denmark’s climate policy landscape and offers insights into climate governance in the European Union more broadly.
