Abstract
Dette afgangsprojekt i arkitektur udvikler et Art House – et center for kunst, kultur og læring – i det gamle havneområde Andrejsala nær Rigas historiske centrum. Projektet tager udgangspunkt i byudviklingsplanen fra konkurrencen om Andrejsala og fokuserer på den nordlige del af området ved at viderebearbejde et foreslået kulturvolumen. Bygningen samler tre hovedspor: at lære, at skabe og at formidle. Det afspejles i fire funktioner: en kunstskole for børn og voksne, værksteds- og studiepladser for kunstnere, designere og arkitekter, to udstillingssale samt en café med sommerterrasse. Den tekniske ambition er at give det industrielle miljø en ny grøn identitet og at stræbe efter et lavt energiforbrug på niveau med 2015-standarder. Konceptet følger de overordnede linjer i byplanen, men skaber samtidig et eget arkitektonisk udtryk. Bygningens orientering udnytter udsigten mod floden og gadeaksen ind mod byens centrum. En offentlig passage fører den gående gade ind gennem huset, forbinder til gårdrummet og til et nabovolumen, og fungerer som et overgangsrum der både opdeler og sammenbinder bygningens dele på tværs og i højden. Planerne er åbne og fleksible, så brugere kan organisere rum efter behov og arbejde kreativt med indretning og anvendelse. Kunstskolens rum er store og overvejende uopdelte, men med tydelige grænser mellem funktioner. De offentlige områder har forskellig karakter: caféen er imødekommende og social, mens udstillingssalene er rolige og skærmet fra det hurtige liv udenfor. This architectural thesis designs an Art House—an art, culture, and education center—in the old harbor area of Andrejsala, near Riga’s historic center. It builds on the urban development plan from the Andrejsala competition and focuses on the northern part of the site by developing one of the proposed cultural building volumes. The project brings together three priorities: learning, creating, and presenting. These are realized through four functions: an art school for children and adults; studio spaces for artists, designers, and architects; two exhibition halls; and a café with a summer terrace. Technically, the aim is to give the industrial setting a new green identity and to target low energy use in line with 2015 standards. The concept follows key lines of the urban plan while forming its own architectural identity. The building’s orientation makes the most of views toward the river and along the street axis leading to the city center. A public passage carries the pedestrian street into and through the building, linking to a courtyard and an adjacent volume. This passage acts as a transitional space that both divides and connects the building horizontally and vertically. Floor plans are open and flexible so users can arrange rooms to suit their needs and be creative with layout and use. The art school features large, mostly undivided rooms, with clear boundaries between different activities. The public areas have distinct characters: the café is welcoming and social, while the exhibition halls are calm and set apart from the fast pace outside. Overall, the goal is a welcoming, creative, social, active, and innovative place—a shared gathering space for diverse creative people.
