Abstract

In collaboration with PDM Technology, this thesis develops and evaluates a mobile solution that guides the assembly and disassembly of machines by combining Augmented Reality (AR) and Digital Twin technology. AR places step-by-step visual instructions on top of the real machine through an iPhone or iPad camera, while a Digital Twin is a detailed digital model that mirrors the machine’s physical parts and structure. We built an iOS app in Unity that uses the digital twin to determine the correct sequence of actions and uses AR to overlay instructions and highlight parts in the user’s view. The app was tested with users and reviewed by an expert from PDM Technology. The tests showed that the user experience needs improvements, but the AR and Digital Twin features helped users follow procedures and show strong potential to reduce errors and save time.
