Abstract
This thesis examines why digital marketplaces are not fully leveraged for open innovation among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Norway, despite a mature web 2.0 infrastructure and strong policy attention to innovation. Using an open, exploratory design, it draws on eight qualitative interviews across knowledge institutions, research organizations, and private companies. The analysis is framed by the Technology Acceptance Model, extended with external factors—critical mass, intellectual property rights, and related variety—to assess technological maturity and adoption barriers. The study is limited to SMEs as defined by EFTA. Early observations indicate low awareness of major open-innovation platforms and limited Norwegian participation. The thesis also addresses perceived usefulness and ease of use to identify what could lower the threshold for adoption.
Afhandlingen undersøger, hvorfor digitale markedspladser ikke udnyttes fuldt til åben innovation blandt små og mellemstore virksomheder (SMV'er) i Norge, trods moden web 2.0-infrastruktur og politisk fokus på innovation. Med et åbent, eksplorativt design gennemføres otte kvalitative interviews på tværs af vidensinstitutioner, forskningsorganisationer og private virksomheder. Analysen rammesættes af Technology Acceptance Model, udvidet med eksterne faktorer som kritisk masse, intellektuelle ejendomsrettigheder og relateret variation, for at vurdere teknologisk modenhed og adoptionsbarrierer. Afgrænsningen følger EFTA’s definition af SMV’er. Indledende observationer peger på lav kendskabsgrad til internationale platforme for åben innovation og begrænset norsk deltagelse.
