Abstract
This project has been about developing a speaker for newly built houses. The vision for this project was to design a suggestion for a speaker for Dynaudio that can reposition and introduce them on the mainstream market in the future. As technology evolves so does the devices using them. Conventional passive speaker systems aren’t as popular as they once were. They are deselected in the favor of soundbars and smaller bluetooth speakers, as these type of speakers requires less effort to use and because they are less visible in the interior. By user studies and trend investigation of user demands in regard to sound reproduction, we managed to create a solution space in which our solution was developed. Dynaudio Ambient 1, is a multifunctional speaker that hides the speakers in its other function as a lamp canopy. The product requires installation but is easier to install than a normal ceiling lamp. As the speaker is a canopy, it can be used as a retrofit solution in existing interiors as well as new houses. It has a neutral aesthetic that, combined with the possibility of exchanging hardware as it get outdated, contribute to securing its relevance on the market in the future as well. The project was made during the Corona pandemic, which caused a shutdown of interaction with people in public, nationally and globally. As such user testing was restricted.
