Abstract
This master’s thesis from the Department of Architecture and Design at Aalborg University proposes a new youth library for Albertslund Municipality. The project builds on the municipality’s proposed local plan and the 2016–2022 Development Strategy for Day Care, which aim to develop a child‑focused part of the city that supports learning, cross‑cultural understanding, and integration, while meeting DGNB criteria for more sustainable construction. The central question is whether measurable requirements (DGNB criteria) can be combined with less tangible design intentions—Gesture & Principle—to create a place that sparks curiosity, activity, and interaction. The ambition is to encourage social contact among children from different backgrounds, ease integration, strengthen a sense of community, and contribute to social sustainability. In light of a growing immigrant population and lower school grades within the municipality, the library is envisioned as an open platform where children can meet and develop social and interpersonal skills. Through thoughtfully designed reflective and interactive community spaces, they can explore, find inspiration, and innovate while learning about the cultures and communities they belong to.
Denne kandidatafhandling fra Institut for Arkitektur og Design ved Aalborg Universitet foreslår et nyt ungdomsbibliotek til Albertslund Kommune. Projektet bygger på kommunens foreslåede lokalplan og Udviklingsstrategi for Dagtilbud 2016–2022, som har til formål at udvikle et børneorienteret byområde, der understøtter læring, kulturel forståelse og integration, samtidig med at DGNB‑kriterier for mere bæredygtigt byggeri opfyldes. Det centrale spørgsmål er, om målbare krav (DGNB‑kriterier) kan forenes med mere uhåndgribelige designintentioner—Gesture & Principle—så der skabes et sted, der vækker nysgerrighed, aktivitet og interaktion. Ambitionen er at fremme social kontakt mellem børn med forskellige baggrunde, lette integrationen, styrke fællesskabet og bidrage til social bæredygtighed. I lyset af en voksende indvandrerbefolkning og lavere skolekarakterer i kommunen tænkes biblioteket som en åben platform, hvor børn kan mødes og udvikle sociale og interpersonelle kompetencer. Gennem omhyggeligt udformede, reflekterende og interaktive fællesrum kan de udforske, finde inspiration og skabe, samtidig med at de lærer om de kulturer og fællesskaber, de er en del af.
