Abstract

This master’s thesis examines how innovations—especially artificial intelligence (AI)—create both risks and opportunities for organizations, and how companies can update their business models by integrating these technologies into their digitalization strategies. It considers AI as a modern technology that may move from early adopters into the mainstream (“crossing the chasm”) and potentially contribute to a new long-term economic cycle often described as the sixth Kondratieff wave. The study identifies common challenges and practical steps organizations can take to adjust their business models to preserve or strengthen their market position. Drawing on empirical evidence and interviews, it assesses the current state of AI adoption in organizations. The thesis also introduces a theoretical framework to evaluate the potential for adopting AI as a technology.
