Abstract

This master's thesis in urban design examines how Aarhus can transform its declining industrial cargo port at the Northern Harbor and Waterfront into a cultural and educational part of the city center. The research combines on-site studies in the Northern Harbor and Waterfront with reviews of municipal plans and materials. Aarhus Docklands, the municipality’s project to redevelop the port, is used as the context for the design phase. The aim is to connect and integrate the urban spaces of the New Central Waterfront with the nearby historic city center. The thesis concludes with two outputs: a design catalogue—a set of principles and proposals for the waterfront’s urban spaces—and a vision plan (a long-term framework) for the intervention area.
