Abstract
This thesis addresses a knowledge gap on what a business needs to know when choosing mobile technology to build an application for its mobile service. It first maps the mobile ecosystem and the most influential actors in the development process, then offers a technical, structured description of native, web, and cross‑platform application frameworks. Drawing on a structured literature review, exploratory expert interviews, participation in relevant industry forums, and analysis approaches such as ecosystem analogies and technology adoption theory (UTAUT), the work develops two descriptive blocks: a technology domain (frameworks and their ecosystem) and an application domain (user acceptance, experience, and continuance). Based on these, the research identifies six salient problem areas to discuss when making a technology choice and highlights five mobile service characteristics that may shift depending on that choice.
