Abstract
In this 2018 master's thesis from the Department of Architecture & Design at Aalborg University, Semiha Toptas proposes a design for a new public library in London, UK. The project uses a research-informed and integrated design approach with a focus on sustainability. This means that design choices are guided by evidence, and the building’s different aspects are developed together as a whole. To create architecture closely aligned with visitors’ needs, the thesis examines how architecture and its environmental context influence people’s bodies, minds, and emotions. These insights are used to shape the design around both physical and mental needs, aiming to provide a positive experience and support well-being in relation to its surroundings.
