Abstract

This thesis examines visitors’ experiences at a man-made nature-based attraction, focusing on the Forest Tower in South Zealand, Denmark. It is motivated by the growth in nature-based tourism and an observed gap between visitors’ expectations/preconceptions and their actual experience. The study adopts an interpretive, qualitative approach, combining participant observations and fieldwork with semi-structured interviews of visitors and the attraction’s management; secondary data are included, and a thematic analysis is conducted within a social constructivist framework. The analysis explores themes such as expectations, perceived man-made disturbance in nature, rules and norms of visiting, multisensory and visual aspects, and perceptions of value and pricing. While detailed findings are not provided in this excerpt, the thesis aims to deliver theoretical insights and practical guidance for the Forest Tower and similar man-made nature-based attractions.
