Abstract
I april 2009 udskrev Sustainability Centre Foundation en idékonkurrence om et udstillings- og forskningscenter for bæredygtighed, World Sustainability Centre, på dæmningen Afsluitdijk i Holland. Dette projekt tager afsæt i konkurrencen og undersøger, hvordan et sådant center kan udformes med fokus på et godt indeklima og lavt energiforbrug. Den foreslåede placering er et øde område i Vadehavet, hvor tidevandet konstant ændrer landskabet. Det præger designet: Terrænet omkring centret er formgivet til at forandre sig i takt med tidevandet og fortsætter som et landskab over udstillingsdelen, der åbner sig mod naturen og havet. Forskningsdelen er samlet i en høj bygning med hotel, konferencefaciliteter og restaurant, som fungerer som et tydeligt vartegn, synligt på lang afstand.
In April 2009, the Sustainability Centre Foundation launched an ideas competition for the World Sustainability Centre—an exhibition and research facility—on the Afsluitdijk in the Netherlands. This project builds on that competition and explores how such a center can be designed with strong attention to indoor climate and low energy use. The proposed site is a relatively remote area in the Wadden Sea, shaped by changing tides, which guides the solution. The landscape around the center is designed to transform with the tide and continues across the exhibition wing, extending toward nature and the sea. The research functions are placed in a tall building that also houses a hotel, conference spaces, and a restaurant, serving as a landmark visible from several kilometers away.
