Abstract

This thesis addresses some of the challenges and opportunities that the child welfare staff at the Danish women's crisis centres experience in their work with the registered children. The thesis will address this by using different interviews with welfare staff at the crisis center and other relevant welfare staff. Furthermore the study will use different theories. Street level bureaucracy by Michael Lipsky, interprofessional collaboration, recognition by Axel Honneth and empowerment. These informants and theories are chosen to help understand the different techniques the staff chooses to use in their work. In addition, the thesis shed light on how the child welfare staff have to use alternative methods than the municipal ones to get the necessary help for the registered children, as they are limited by, among other things, the current legislation and economy following the children. However, the staff experience this as both a challenge but also an opportunity, as they themselves can help shape and choose the help they seek. The staff also wishes bigger acknowledgment of the problems the children are facing, when moving to a crisis center by the different welfare workers at the municipality, by the government and by society in general. Overall, the study concludes that there are different opportunities and challenges in the child welfare staff's work with the registered children. Furthermore, they want improvements to the current legislation in the area, especially in relation to an independent tariff for the children and aftercare for the family. Various professionals support this.
