Abstract
This bachelor’s thesis examines how socially marginalized and crime-involved young people can be supported in processes of resocialization in Greenland. The study is situated within a social work perspective and focuses on the structural, relational, and institutional conditions that influence young people’s opportunities for change. The empirical basis of the thesis consists of qualitative interviews with professionals from the police, the correctional services, and the residential institution Angerlarsimaffik Isikkivik, supplemented by relevant statistical material. The analysis is informed by a hermeneutic approach and draws on theoretical perspectives from Pierre Bourdieu (forms of capital), Erving Goffman (stigma), Axel Honneth (recognition), and Urie Bronfenbrenner (ecological systems theory). The findings indicate that resocialization cannot be understood solely as an individual process, but must be viewed in relation to social inequality, stigma, lack of recognition, and fragmented interagency collaboration. In particular, the absence of coherent cooperation between key actors, including the municipality, emerges as a significant structural barrier to successful resocialization. The thesis concludes that resocialization requires not only individual motivation, but also coordinated institutional efforts, recognition-based relationships, and broader societal responsibility.
