Abstract

Learning the saxophone is time-consuming and forces beginners to juggle several tasks at once: playing notes, reading notation, and following articulation. Without close guidance, these demands become barriers. We explore a haptic glove that delivers small tactile cues to the fingers, acting as a guiding hand in the early stages of learning. Our goal is to make the instrument more accessible by strengthening the teacher–student connection and providing clear, felt hints about finger placement and repeatable patterns. To shape the design, we gather insights and feedback from the saxophone community and focus on solutions that make instructions easier to understand. The glove is intended to help students practice finger positions and play by repeating patterns, so they spend less effort switching attention between playing, reading, and articulation.

At lære saxofon er tidskrævende og kræver, at begyndere håndterer flere ting på én gang: spille de rigtige toner, læse noder og følge artikulation. Uden tæt vejledning bliver det hurtigt en barriere. Vi undersøger en berøringsbaseret (haptisk) handske, der giver små taktile signaler til fingrene og fungerer som en 'vejledende hånd' i den første del af læringen. Målet er at gøre instrumentet mere tilgængeligt ved at styrke forbindelsen mellem lærer og elev og give klare, mærkbare hints om fingerplacering og gentagelige mønstre. For at forme designet indsamler vi erfaringer og feedback fra saxofonmiljøet og fokuserer på løsninger, der gør det lettere at forstå instruktioner. Handsken skal hjælpe elever med at øve fingerstillinger og spille ved at gentage mønstre, så de i mindre grad behøver at skifte opmærksomhed mellem at spille, læse og artikulere.
